Grey Heron

Grey heron is a resident bird and found all over Tulunadu. Its habitat includes wetlands, rivers, backwaters, lakes and beaches. It has white head and neck with a broad black stripe that extends from the eye to the back crest. It has grey wings and underparts are whitish grey. It has brown legs and pink yellow bill. It feeds on fish and other aquatic creatures. It builds nest high in trees especially in colony. The female lays 3-4 eggs which are blue-green in colour. Both parents take part in rising the young.
