Common Cuckoo

The cuckoo clock gets its name from the call of this bird. This is a large cuckoo with grey upperparts , paler underparts with dark stripes on belly. Tail is dark grey. It breed in trans-himalayan region and winter migrant to Indian penninsula, Africa and Europe. It is a brrod parasite and lays its eggs in the nest of other birds like dunnades, meadow pippits and reed wrablers. They feed on catterpillars,insects and larves.
Located: It is quite a rare bird and sightings has been recorded in Udupi, Manipal and Mangalore.
