Red-wattled Lapwing

The Red -wattled lapwing is a wader and usually seen in pairs or small groups. It gets its name from small fleshy red wattle on its beak. The upper parts are pale brown. The head, neck,chin, throat and breast and upper belly are black. The beak is reddish with black tip. The reddish eye ring is connected to red wattle. The feet are long and yellow in colour. They are found in open forests, wetlands, rivers and streams. They feed on insects, grasshoppers, butterflies and crustaceans. The nesting site is usually close to water body and on the ground. It lays 3-4 eggs and both parents take part in incubation and raising.
Located all over Tulu Nadu.
Call: It sounds like Did you do it...did you do it... and hence it is called the 'did you do it' bird.
Scientific Name: Vanellus indicus (Least Concern)
