Purple-rumped Sunbird

Purple-rumped sunbirds are small birds and are residents of Tulu Nadu.. Is is quite a common bird in the Western Ghats and is found in variety of environment like gardens and small trees usually near human habitat. Males have purple rump and throat and females are paler with white throat. They have long black beak.They feed on nectar and sometimes on insects. They fly shot distances and perch on tree while feeding. They built nests on branches of small trees. The nests usually consists of grass, fibre, paper, cobwebs among others. The female lays 2-3 eggs and both parents take part in raising the young ones. They help a lot in pollination.
